Laguna de los Condores Trek
The Laguna de los Condores (Lake of the Condors) is probably one of the most famous archaeological sites in the Chachapoyas area after Kuelap. It has been on various TV documentaries after mummies were found in tombs overlooking the lake in 1997. The lake is surrounded by cloud forest and on one side cliffs.
The trek to the lake isn’t easy even on horse back up and so we will have a few days seeing other sites in the region to acclimatize before embarking on the trek to the lake.
Our trek includes the sarcophagi of Karajia, Kuelap and of course a visit to the museum of Leimebamba where the mummies and artifacts found at the Laguna de los Condores are now stored and cared for.
